2nd XI Championship: Middlesex v Surrey - Match Report
03 July 2012
In yet another rain affected game, abandoned as a draw after fewer that 150 overs, Middlesex selected a mix of experience and youth for the Championship clash against a very strong Surrey XI.
Yet again Middlesex lost the toss and were asked to bat at an overcast and damp Radlett. Rogers and Robson opened, with Rogers standing apart from his team-mates with a belligerent display of strokemanship. Making 66 off 106 balls, as others wickets were falling around him. With 6 batters failing to make double figures we struggled to 185 in very trying conditions.
Surrey fared no better as Collymore and the ever improving Gurjit Sandhu ran amok in the overcast conditions. Collymore finished with 4-37 off 15, reinforcing the class of our two former test players in the team. Sandhu produced a magnificent display, taking 5-32 off 12.3. His last 4 wickets falling for just 4 runs.
Before the rain stopped play in our second innings, Rogers again got into his stride scoring a brisk 40.
Unfortunately there it ended, Abandoned as a draw.
For the record, the 2s have lost 54% of their available overs this season to the weather.
