Middlesex County Cricket Club - Annual Awards Dinner
20 September 2012
Following a successful season back in the top flight of the County Championship, Middlesex signed off their 2012 season at Lord’s last night, as the club’s Executive Board, players, staff, sponsors, members and invited guests celebrated at Middlesex’s Annual End of Season Awards Dinner.
Middlesex’s tally of 172 points in Division One of the County Championship was enough to see the Seaxes finish the season in a creditable third place, having won just one game fewer than Champion County, Warwickshire, and once again the club narrowly missed out on qualification to the Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-finals, finishing as runners up in Group A behind Lancashire.
Recipients of the club’s Annual playing awards were as follows:
Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month Award for Aug/Sept 2012
AWARDED TO NEIL DEXTER
Neil’s tally of 503 runs in the season’s final six County Championship matches at an average of nearly 46, including two hundreds and an innings of ninety, saw him scoop the final Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month award of the season.
John Bugden Bowling Award (best bowling performance of the season)
AWARDED TO TOBY ROLAND-JONES
A maiden ten wicket match and career-best match winning bowling figures of 10 for 118 against Worcestershire at New Road were enough to earn Toby the John Bugden bowling award.
Geoff Norris Batting Award (best batting performance of the season)
AWARDED TO JOE DENLY
The stand out innings of the year was compiled by Joe Denly, whose 134 not out proved to be a match winning innings for Middlesex against Worcestershire at Lord’s.
Middlesex CCC Female Youth Player of the Year Award
JOINTLY AWARDED TO MILLIE POPE & ANNA NICHOLLS
Millie’s 310 runs at an average of 103 proved, including a highest score of 110 not out were a key factor in Middlesex U13’s enjoying a successful season, which included progression to the National Quarter Finals.
Anna has represented Middlesex at U15’s, U17’s and senior level this season, and has performed admirably in each of the three sides. In sixteen matches she has claimed 22 wickets at an average of just 11, as well as scoring 205 runs at an average of 25.
With both girls playing such a key role at the club this year, the judges felt that the award should be jointly shared between them.
Middlesex CCC Youth Player of the Year Award
AWARDED TO RYAN HIGGINS
Ryan has represented Middlesex at U17 and U19 level this season, as well as representing the Middlesex Second XI. In seven innings for the youth sides he has scored 496 runs at an average of over 82, as well as taking 7 wickets at an average of 33.
In the second XI he has scored a further 260 runs at over 43 including a top score of 55* against Lancashire in the Second XI Trophy semi-final.

As the club’s leading wicket taker, Toby’s haul of 64 First-Class wickets saw him receive the vast majority of votes for this award from his fellow Middlesex players.
Middlesex CCC Women’s Player of the Year
NO AWARD GIVEN THIS SEASON
The inclement weather this summer meant that the Middlesex Women’s side only completed three fixtures in the Championship this season, so it was deemed that this award would not be issued.
