Middlesex County Cricket Club players took to the ice this week, as they joined senior executives, staff and volunteers of the club’s charity partner, Shooting Star CHASE, and many of the children and families who are benefitting from the charities’ ongoing support, for a fun evening of ice skating at Hampton Court Ice Rink.
Whilst fun and games on the ice was the primary order of the day, the occasion also provided Middlesex with the perfect opportunity to make their annual cheque presentation to the charity. A number of Middlesex players duly obliged, alongside Sophie Kelly, from the club’s principal sponsor, Brooks Macdonald, presenting Shooting Star CHASE’s Chief Executive, David Burland, with a cheque for £31,863.94, which is the total sum of funds raised by the club through an array of fundraising initiatives during the calendar year to date.
Having graced the ice, and taken part in the cheque presentation, Middlesex seam bowler, Tim Murtagh, had this to say of the evening…
“Having been fortunate enough to have met with a number of the families who benefit from the great work that Shooting Star CHASE does day in day out, when myself and a number of the Middlesex lads visited the hospice in Hampton this time last year, it was great to see the children and their families collectively having a fantastic night of fun on the ice at Hampton Court.
I think it’s fair to say that most of us felt slightly more comfortable with the grass of Lord’s underfoot, rather than the ice of Hampton Court, however it was a huge privilege for us all to be there and to be able to proudly hand a cheque over to the charity for well in excess of £30,000.
We look forward to continuing to support Shooting Star CHASE in the future, as they continue to offer their brilliant and invaluable support to helping children and families in Middlesex.”
Speaking of a successful first year’s fundraising for Shooting Star CHASE, Middlesex CCC’s Chief Executive, Vinny Codrington, added…
“We are absolutely delighted that the first year of our charity partnership with Shooting Star CHASE has helped raise such an impressive amount, which will ultimately make a huge difference to the charity and to the children and families they support.
We’re extremely grateful for the generous support we receive from a number of very loyal supporters, not least of all, Brooks Macdonald, who have matched the donations we at the club have made from proceeds of replica playing shirt and cap sales this year
Our thanks goes to them, and to D&G Partners for their fundraising efforts at the Lord’s Legends Ball held earlier this year, which collectively, along with the generous help of numerous Middlesex supporters, of whom there are far too many to mention individually, has enabled us to raise such a significant amount for Shooting Star CHASE this year.
For us to be having such a positive impact on a local charity, which specifically helps families and children within and around the county of Middlesex means so much to us, and we are thankful to everyone involved for the support they have offered to our fundraising initiatives this year.”
