Sunday’s win over Leicestershire makes this a huge game for us. If we win it we are very much back in the hunt for a semi-final place. If we lose we would probably have to win all our remaining matches.
We are fully aware of how Somerset will come at us, which is very hard up front with the bat and aggressive with the ball. They have several very dangerous players and, it goes without saying, we need to start the game well. As this tournament unfolds it is clear to see the importance of taking early wickets. In many ways it is the only way of restricting a team to a competitive total. If you fail to take early wickets it is very hard to contain a side in the second half of an innings.
After back to back wins we enter the game in pretty good shape and with a realisation that the next 11 days are very important. A good performance against Somerset would set us up well for the LV=CC matches against Sussex and Yorkshire that follow at Lord’s.
We will be making no changes to the squad, which will be the same as that against Leicestershire.
Middlesex are pleased to announce the following 13-man squad to play against Somerset in our Yorkshire Bank 40 match tomorrow, Tuesday 4 June:
Neil Dexter (captain)
The match is due to start at 3.40pm with gates opening at 2.10pm.
Tickets can be purchased on the day and cost £18 for adults, £9 for over 65s and £5 for under 16s.
This match will be followed by a 4-day LV= County Championship against Sussex starting on Wednesday 5 June - the first day of this match with start at 12 noon due to the late finish of the match on Tuesday, with gates opening at 11am. The other three days will start at 11am as per usual with gates opening at 10am.
