Middlesex County Cricket Club and their principal sponsor Brooks Macdonald are delighted to announce that following an exceptional start to the LV= County Championship season opening batsman Sam Robson has been chosen as the April/May 2013 Middlesex CCC Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month.
Sam has been in majestic form with the bat throughout both April and May, playing a key role in helping to take his unbeaten Middlesex side to the top of the Division One table and topping the Middlesex CCC First-Class batting averages. His hugely impressive tally of 652 runs in the club’s six County Championship matches at an average of 81.5 have also seen Robson rise to second place in the FTI MVP rankings over the same period.
Robson opened his 2013 batting account with back to back half centuries in Middlesex’s opening Championship fixture away at Trent Bridge, as knocks of 76 and 55 not out helped Middlesex to a fine ten wicket victory. He followed this up with a third consecutive half century in Middlesex’s first innings against Derbyshire, as the club once again secured a convincing Championship victory, this time by the margin of nine wickets.
His first century of the season came in Middlesex’s very next Championship game, as a terrific knock of 129, in a first wicket partnership of 265 with Chris Rogers, saw Middlesex fight back against rivals Surrey to secure an important draw.
In Middlesex’s next game Robson broke his own personal best score, as in the club’s first innings against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, his unbeaten 215 surpassed his previous First Class best of 204, which he set in 2010 against Oxford MCCU.
Further knocks of 42 and 24 not out against Somerset rounded off a brilliant period with the bat for Robson.
Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, commented…
“Sam has had an outstanding start to the season.
As a cricketer he continues to grow and we all hope he maintains this form for the remainder of the summer.”
Sam was presented with the Middlesex CCC Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month Award for April/May 2013 during the interval of the Middlesex Panthers Sky televised Yorkshire Bank 40 match against Somerset at Lord’s on Tuesday 4 June 2013, when he accepted a cheque for £1,000 and a magnum of champagne, courtesy of Brooks Macdonald.
