Middlesex County Cricket Club and their principal sponsor Brooks Macdonald today announced that Australian overseas all-rounder Adam Voges has been selected to receive the club’s Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month Award for July 2013.
Whilst Voges was initially signed by Middlesex to add all round quality and experience to the Panthers side in this year’s Friends Life t20 campaign, Chris Rogers’ call up to Australia’s Ashes squad has since seen Voges registered to play for the club in all forms of the game.
Making his County Championship debut for the club at Uxbridge in early July against Warwickshire, he backed up a quite brilliant knock of 150 in Middlesex’s first innings with a half century in the second innings to finish the game with an aggregate of 201 runs from the match.
When scoring his hundred at Uxbridge Voges became only the fourth person in Middlesex’s illustrious history to record a century on his County Championship debut and only the second batsman in history to record a century and a half century in his two County Championship debut innings. With John Simpson, he also broke a long standing partnership record against Warwickshire, when the pair added 180 runs for the fifth wicket.
Whilst Voges has had a significant impact with the ball in Middlesex’s Twenty20 campaign to date, taking seven wickets at a meagre average of just over eleven, he has also played a crucial role with the bat, using his experience to take Middlesex over the line against both Essex and Sussex with brilliant knocks to finish the games off.
Middlesex’s Chief Executive, Vinny Codrington, commented…..
“The impact that Adam has had both on and off the field since his arrival with us here at Middlesex has been nothing short of magnificent.
With Chris Rogers away on international duty and Adam registering for us across all forms of the game, he couldn’t possibly have made a bigger impact than he did at Uxbridge when making his Championship debut.
His debut performance against Warwickshire in the Championship was exceptional and quite rightly sees him being rewarded with this month’s Player of the Month Award.”
Adam Voges was presented with the Middlesex CCC Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month Award for July during the interval of the Middlesex Panthers Friends Life t20 match against Surrey this evening at Lord’s in front of a packed crowd. He also received a cheque for £1,000 and a magnum of champagne, courtesy of Brooks Macdonald.
