Middlesex County Cricket Club and their principal sponsor Brooks Macdonald today announced that wicket-keeper batsman John Simpson has been chosen to receive the club’s Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month Award for August 2013.
With Adam Rossington sustaining an injury to his hand at the end of July, Simpson made a stunning return to Middlesex’s one day side, hitting two crucial match winning innings in August for the Panthers in the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition.
With Middlesex struggling in their run-chase against bottom of the table Unicorns at Lord’s, Simpson came to the crease with the score on 127 for 5, needing a further 82 runs to win. As wickets continued to fall around him, Simpson remained firm, to finish unbeaten on 50 from 48 balls to see the Panthers over the line with just one wicket to spare.
Again at Lord’s against Leicestershire, Simpson again hit an unbeaten half century to see the Panthers to victory, finishing on 58 not out, as Middlesex finished their Yorkshire Bank 40 campaign with a victory.
To add to his efforts with the bat, Simpson also took eighteen dismissals behind the stumps for the club in all forms of the game in August, taking his tally to an impressive 53 First-class victims.
Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, commented…..
“John’s performances for the one-day side in August have rightly been rewarded with his receiving this award.
Two match winning innings and eighteen dismissals all told are a fantastic return in the month, so congratulations to John.”
John Simpson was presented with the Middlesex CCC Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month Award for August in front of the Lord’s Pavilion during the tea interval of Middlesex’s LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire this afternoon. He also received a cheque for £1,000 and a magnum of champagne, courtesy of Brooks Macdonald.
