Middlesex CCC today announces that Tom Smith is to leave the club at the end of the 2013 season to play for Gloucestershire CCC. In four seasons with Middlesex CCC Smith played in 77 1st XI matches for the club, taking 68 wickets and scoring 473 runs. Smith, a left arm spinner, has spent much of the 2013 season on loan to Gloucestershire CCC, who he has signed a three year contract with.
Commenting on Smith’s departure Middlesex County Cricket Club’s Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, said: “Releasing a player is never easy but everyone at Middlesex CCC is delighted that Tom is able to continue his cricket career at another county. Tom is a cracking young man and a good cricketer, and it has been a pleasure to work with him during the past four years.
“The continuous progress made by Ravi Patel, who we rate very highly, has reduced Tom’s chances to play for the 1st XI and he is at the stage in his career where he needs to be playing regular 1st XI cricket. Everybody at Middlesex CCC wishes Tom success at Gloucestershire and he will always be welcome at Lord’s.”
