Former England Women’s Head Coach Mark Lane to take coaching role with Middlesex County Cricket Club
Middlesex County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the appointment of former England Women’s Cricket Head Coach, Mark Lane, as Director of the Middlesex CCC Central Academy.
The appointment, starting later this month, comes as a result of a brand new partnership established between Middlesex County Cricket Club and both Brondesbury and Primrose Hill Cricket Clubs, which sees the creation of a new Regional Cricket Academy, based in central London.
Mark became England Women’s Head Coach in 2008 and immediately led the side to success in two back to back Ashes campaigns in 2008 and 2009. He also oversaw the national women’s side that won the ICC World Cup and ICC World T20 in 2009.
Following the success of the Middlesex CCC Regional Academies at Teddington Cricket Club and Haberdashers School, Middlesex is now in a position to deliver top quality coaching programmes for young players of the northern and inner London boroughs. The establishment of the Central Academy under Mark Lane’s stewardship is further evidence of Middlesex’s ambitious plans to invest in the development of youth cricket across the county.
Middlesex CCC’s Chief Executive, Vinny Codrington, said of Lane’s appointment…
“Middlesex is strongly committed to a programme of developing talented young cricketers within the county, to ultimately provide a flow of elite cricketers to the county side and national sides for years to come.
The significant investment we’ve made in our Regional Cricket Academy programme has already started to yield exceptional results and thanks to our partnership with Brondesbury and Primrose Hill Cricket Clubs, and under the stewardship of someone of Mark Lane’s undoubted quality, we’re looking forward to our Central Regional Academy delivering equal measures of success.
Mark’s experience at elite level with England will prove invaluable to each and every one of the young players within the Middlesex cricket system and it’s a terrific coup for Middlesex to have secured a coach of Mark’s standing in the game.”
Speaking of Middlesex’s new Regional Academy partnership with Brondesbury Cricket Club, club Captain, John Fosbraey said…
“Brondesbury Cricket Club is delighted to welcome Mark to the club to run the Academy and strengthen links between youth development and adult cricket.
He has a terrific track record of organisation and technical excellence and we are very excited that he will forge strong links with local schools and families to develop young players for Brondesbury CC, Middlesex CCC and beyond.”
Eddie Villiers, Chairman of Primrose Hill Cricket Club said…
“In the seven years since its foundation, Primrose Hill CC has been proud to produce twenty Middlesex junior county players, two of whom are now in the ECB national under 15’s squads.
Our 300 members are excited to welcome Mark and we look forward to seeing more talent come through our ranks to feed into the Central Academy squad. Our committee is delighted to invest in the ongoing development of youth cricket at Middlesex CCC.”
On his new Central Academy Director role at Middlesex CCC, Mark Lane said...
“I am delighted with the new role and am excited about the opportunities that lay ahead. I am looking forward to working closely with Brondesbury and Primrose Hill Cricket Clubs, plus all of the clubs within the two regional boroughs under my responsibility, and to helping to develop successful player pathways for the next generation of Middlesex cricketers.”
