Following the discovery of an infected abscess in Gareth Berg’s shoulder in late April, he was placed on an intensive course of antibiotic treatment to clear up the infection before any further analysis of his shoulder could be undertaken to establish the extent of any damage to the area.
The infection unfortunately took longer to clear up that was initially suggested, however now that the antibiotics have freed Gareth’s shoulder of infection, a thorough medical examination of the shoulder joint has confirmed a large rotator cuff muscle tear which requires surgery in the coming weeks.
As a result, Gareth will sadly be forced to miss the remainder of the season, whilst he undergoes a lengthy recuperation process following the required surgery
Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser commented…..
“This is obviously extremely disappointing news for Gareth and Middlesex. He is an extremely important player, in that he gives the team quality and balance.
Gareth’s presence has and will continue to be missed by the team and we all wish him a speedy and full recovery.”
