Following a month in which he posted individual career best scores with both bat and ball, helping to cement Middlesex County Cricket Club’s position at the top of the LV= County Championship Division One table, the club and their Principal Sponsor Brooks Macdonald today named Neil Dexter as the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for May 2014.
Whilst the month of May started with a disappointing defeat at Edgbaston for Middlesex against Warwickshire, a return to the Home of Cricket saw a return to winning ways against Lancashire, with Dexter playing a crucial all-rounders role in Middlesex’s comprehensive victory.
Surpassing his previous best bowling figures of 5 for 27, taken last season, Dexter ripped through the Lancashire order, claiming 6 wickets for 63 runs, to help dismiss the visitors for just 266 in their first innings. With the bat Dexter then hit a patient half century with the bat off 154 balls as Middlesex built what proved to be a match winning total of 459 for 8 declared.
In Middlesex’s next LV= County Championship encounter, at Wantage Road against Northamptonshire, Dexter was again instrumental in securing a solid Middlesex victory, hitting a career best score of 163 not out off 265 balls, to help his Middlesex side to a total 543 for 7 declared. This again proved to be a match winning total, as Middlesex dismissed their hosts for 283 and 176 to run out winners by an innings and 84 runs.
Dexter completed the month of May with 228 Championship runs to his name at an average of 76 and took 7 first-class wickets at an average of just 24.
Neil will be presented with a magnum of Brooks Macdonald champagne and a cheque for £1,000 in front of the Pavilion at Lord’s during the interval of Middlesex’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Gloucestershire on Thursday 26 June 2014.
