Owais Shah named as Ignis Asset Management Player of the Month for July
Middlesex County Cricket Club’s principal sponsor, Ignis Asset Management, is delighted to announce that the Middlesex Player of the Month award for July 2009 goes to Owais Shah.
Following outstanding performances in Middlesex’s home fixture against Surrey at Lord’s and the away fixture against Derbyshire this month, resulting in a first class batting average of over 80, the panel of judges, comprising Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, Middlesex’s Captain, Shaun Udal and Ignis Asset Management’s own panel of Directors, unanimously reached their decision to honour Owais Shah with this month’s Player of the Month award.
Owais will receive a cheque for £1,000 and a magnum of Bollinger champagne, courtesy of Ignis Asset Management, during the lunchtime interval of Middlesex’s home LV County Championship fixture against Northamptonshire at Lord’s on Friday 31st July 2009, and later this season will also be presented with his Ignis Player of the Month trophy for July at Middlesex’s prestigious end of season club awards dinner.
Ignis Asset Management Director, Jonathan Polin, congratulated Owais on his award, and had this to say of his performances throughout July: “Owais’s return to the Middlesex side from his one day international duties with England has been a huge and timely boost to the side. Compiling two centuries in the County Championship, along with an unbeaten fifty in the Natwest Pro40 against Surrey goes a long way to showing what Middlesex miss when Owais is away representing England. Our congratulations go to Owais on some truly outstanding performances throughout the month of July and we wish him luck and continued success throughout the remainder of the season”.
On being advised of the panel’s decision that he had been chosen as the Ignis Player of the Month for July, Owais had this to add: “I am honoured to receive the Ignis Player of the Month award for July and would like to thank everyone at Ignis Asset Management and at the club for nominating me to receive this accolade. I’ve personally been delighted with the way things have gone out in the middle for me since I’ve come back into the Middlesex side and feel that I’ve got plenty of runs in me each time I’m heading out to the crease. Scoring runs is always nice, however it would be all the more sweet if we could start to turn our County Championship form around and kick off with a win against Northamptonshire this Friday! Thanks again to everyone for the Ignis Player of the Month award, it’s a real honour and a pleasure to have been rewarded in this way”.
