Emburey appointed Director of Cricket
John Emburey has been promoted to the position of Director of Cricket for Middlesex. Vinny Codrington, Chief Executive said, “We are delighted that John has accepted the position of Director of Cricket, responsible not only for first team performance as Head Coach, but also overseeing all cricket in the county from grass roots to the first XI. He will continue in his role as Head Coach and will continue to work closely with Jason Pooley the Assistant Coach, and Toby Radford the Academy Director”. “We have an exciting future here at Middlesex.” John Emburey said. “Thanks to Jason and Toby we have an excellent youth system and there are some very exciting cricketers in our Academy. This season should see the emergence of some exciting new talent with Eoin Morgan and Billy Godleman, who is the first to come through the Academy system. The county is in good shape for its long-term future”. Turning to the season ahead, Emburey was cautiously optimistic that the club would have a good season, “We have strengthened the bowling squad this season. Last year, we lost Nantie Hayward and Chad Keegan for most of the season due to injury, which left too much of the workload on the remaining bowlers. This year, by recruiting Chris Silverwood, Johann Louw and Mohammad Ali, we have a stronger squad to represent us during the long season. I expect us to be very competitive in all competitions”. Vinny Codrington was delighted that Middlesex, as well as playing at Lord’s, would also be playing at Southgate, Richmond and Uxbridge, thereby taking the game out to various parts of the county. Both T20 matches at Lord’s were looking likely to be sell outs, with advance ticket sales going extremely well, and he expected bumper crowds at the Southgate festival, for the Middlesex matches at Uxbridge against Hampshire and particularly against Pakistan in August. The T20 match against Sussex at Richmond will be promoted as a strong family day with the start time of 3pm. Codrington was also delighted to announce that Northern Rock had agreed to continue their sponsorship of the club through to the end of the 2008 season. “Naturally we are thrilled that Northern Rock have extended their sponsorship. They are very much part of the Middlesex family, and we could not be more thrilled that they are so happy with the club. Their support is vital to the successful running of the organisation”.
