Notts v Middlesex: Match preview & squad announcement

over 8 years ago | Uncategorised

Having firmly re-established their claims at the top of the Division One table with an impressive return to winning ways against Hampshire this week at Lord's, Middlesex head to Trent Bridge on Sunday to take on a Nottinghamshire side, who have failed to live up to many pundits high expectations of them so far this season.

Middlesex's win saw them close the gap on Durham to just four points after their last outing, with a dominant performance against their visitors from Southampton, who worryingly for them, came out of the game five points adrift at the bottom of the table. Steven Finn will be absent again for the trip to the East Midlands, as he heads to Cardiff to take on the Australians, having earned a well deserved return to England Test squad this week for the Ashes.

The focus of the Middlesex attack will instead fall upon James Harris, who having picked up another eight wickets against Hampshire, has now overtaken Chris Rushworth and Steve Magoffin, to become the leading wicket taker in Division One of the County Championship.

Middlesex's batting ranks are boosted by the return from injury of left handed Dawid Malan, who after a lengthy absence on the sidelines, is available and in contention for a recall to the side at Trent Bridge. Paul Stirling is unavailable as Ireland begin their World T20 Qualifying tournament in Belfast from July 9th - July 26th.

Nottinghamshire, who themselves secured an important and much needed victory themselves in their last Championship encounter, against fellow strugglers Worcestershire, will be desperate to build on that result, to quickly reverse the form that has seen them sat at the wrong end of the table in recent weeks.

Middlesex have named the following 14 man squad:

James Franklin (captain), Joe Burns, Nick Compton, Nick Gubbins, James Harris, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Tim Murtagh, Harry Podmore, Ravi Patel, Sam Robson, Toby Roland-Jones, Ollie Rayner,  John Simpson
