Middlesex 2s v Somerset 2s: Day 2 Match Report

over 8 years ago | Uncategorised

STUMPS ON DAY 2: SOMERSET 174 & 234; MIDDLESEX 255 & 51-5

Well, the game has moved on quickly!

After gaining an 80 odd lead from the first innings, Middlesex were looking to contain the visitors to far less than their eventual 234. On a track that has seemed to offer more help to the respective bowling units, the 40+ from the last two partnerships could prove vital in the result of this Championship fixture. This was despite fast bowler Harry Podmore recording his first 5fer in 2nd XI cricket, a feat made more surprising that it actually came AFTER his first 2nd XI century with the bat.

Set a target of 154 to win from 21 overs tonight and a whole day tomorrow, things looked pretty simple. However Somerset bowlers hit line and length and assisted by the ball starting to nibble of the track had us in some trouble by the close.

All to play for on the final day with 5 wickets needed by Somerset and 103 by the home side.
