Hampshire v Middlesex: Day 1 Tea Update

over 8 years ago | Uncategorised

Hampshire 211 for three Hampshire captain Jimmy Adams scored a second half-century in three days as Middlesex continued to toil on Day One at the Ageas Bowl.

Opener Adams missed last week’s defeat at Yorkshire for the birth of his second son but struck an unbeaten fifty in Friday night’s T20 Blast victory against Essex. He has also past the milestone in his last two County Championship matches and was joined in the half century club by Michael Carberry midway through the afternoon. Adams needed 122 deliveries to reach fifty as he navigated difficult swinging conditions after being put in by Middlesex skipper James Franklin.

After putting on 85 with Liam Dawson – who passed 4500 career first class runs – for the opening partnership in the morning, Adams and Carberry added 75 with some blistering hitting. Barring a run out let off when on four, Adams looked in supreme form until he was on the end of a beauty from James Harris when on 61.

Harris is the country’s leading wicket taker – with 29 wickets in the first month of the season – and managed to sneak a yorker through Adams’ defences. James Vince has made a habit of finding cheap ways to get out in 2015, and after getting another start of 27, weakly swishing across the line to deep mid-on.

Carberry reached his fifty in 99 balls – he missed out a first century of the season last week by three runs – as Hampshire took control to end the session on 211 for three.
