Middlesex Under 17's in ECB National semi-finals this Sunday at Merchant Taylors'

over 6 years ago | Uncategorised

Congratulations to Middlesex’s Under 17’s boys, who have qualified for the ECB Under 17’s National semi-finals, which will be played at home, at Merchant Taylors’ School, this coming Sunday, 2nd July 2017.

Middlesex’s youngsters won the Under 17’s London and East Group, having won three of their four matches played. Victories against Essex, Kent and Surrey took Middlesex to the semi-finals, with them suffering just one defeat in the campaign, to Sussex in a rain affected DLS result.

Middlesex will take on Gloucestershire in the semi-final, who were the winners of the South West Group.

The format, which is played over 50 overs per side with a white ball, sees the players take to the field in coloured clothing, with each side able to field three under 18’s in the side, with the rest of the side made up of under 17’s.

Middlesex’s side this Sunday will feature a number of players who have made Second Eleven appearances this season, including Savin Perera, who hit an astonishing three centuries in Middlesex’s four group games, Charlie Scott, younger brother of Middlesex’s George, and Jack Davies, who featured heavily in Middlesex’s Second Eleven Trophy campaign this year and played in the final at Headingley.

Also featuring will be Rahul Wijeratne, who captained Harrow to victory over Eton in the annual Eton vs Harrow fixture at Lord’s last weekend and hit a match-winning knock of 67 off 63 balls.

Speaking ahead of the semi-final, Alan Coleman, Middlesex Cricket’s Head of Youth Cricket, commented:

“Under the guidance of Rory Coutts and Andy Wagner the team have played some entertaining and exciting cricket during the competition, and fully deserve their place in the semi-finals.

“It will no doubt be a tough test for the boys, and it would be great to see as many Middlesex supporters at the ground to offer their support for what should be a great day’s cricket.”

Should Middlesex prevail against Gloucestershire in the semi-final, they will head to Kibworth in Leicestershire for the final, which will be played on Sunday 9th July.

Sunday’s semi-final at Merchant Taylors’ School starts at 11am and is free entry to all spectators.

For those wishing to support the side and head along to watch, the address of Merchant Taylors’ School is as follows: Merchant Taylors’ School, Sandy Lodge, Northwood, Middlesex, HA6 2HT.
