STEVEN FINN NAMED BY ICC AS REPLACEMENT FOR WOAKES IN ENGLAND CHAMPIONS TROPHY SQUAD

over 6 years ago | Uncategorised

Congratulations to Steven Finn, who was today named as the replacement for Chris Woakes in England's ICC Champions Trophy squad.

England next face new Zealand at Cardiff on Tuesday 6th June and finish their group stage matches with a contest against Australia on Saturday 10th June at Edgbaston.

The ICC confirmed earlier that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 had approved Steven Finn as a replacement player for Chris Woakes in the England squad for the tournament.

Woakes sustained a left side strain during England’s eight wickets victory over Bangladesh in the tournament opener on Thursday, 1 June.

Finn, 28, has represented England in 69 One-Day Internationals and has taken 102 wickets. He is presently ranked 32nd on the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for ODI Bowlers.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 consists of Geoff Allardice (ICC, chairman), Campbell Jamieson (ICC representative), Steve Elworthy (Tournament Director), Alan Fordham (host representative), Sourav Ganguly and Michael Slater (both independent nominees).

Good luck to Steven in the Champions Trophy, where he'll join up with England teammate and England Captain Eoin Morgan.
