"2006 was not a memorable year for Ben. Having started the season with such optimism, a debilitating bout of shingles decimated his season and, even when he was fit enough to play, undoubtedly affected his form. At the season’s end, Ben decided to relinquish the captaincy in order to concentrate on his batting and rediscover the splendid form he enjoyed a couple of seasons ago which pushed him to the edge of selection for England A.

No-one takes their cricket more seriously than Ben and he has spent another winter working hard on his fitness and form. He combines this with a winter ‘day-job’ as an insurance broker. Ben though still has much unfinished business at Middlesex and, unburdened by the captaincy, will surely flourish in 2007."
