Tim Murtagh extends contract with Middlesex for another two years

over 7 years ago | Uncategorised

Middlesex County Cricket Club are today delighted to announce that seasoned seamer, Tim Murtagh, has reached agreement with the club on a two-year extension to his contract, which will see him remain at Lord’s until at least the end of the 2018 season.

Irish international Murtagh, 35, joined Middlesex from London neighbours Surrey in 2007 and has since gone on to make 277 appearances for the club in all forms of the game, hitting almost 3,000 runs and taking over 700 wickets. Murtagh’s 557 first-class wickets for the club put him in the top 25 first-class wicket-takers of all time for Middlesex.

Having secured Murtagh’s services for a further two years, Angus Fraser, Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket commented…

“Tim thoroughly deserves this new deal and I am delighted that, in all probability, he will finish his career at Middlesex CCC. We are lucky to have him - he continues to perform to an extremely high level and is a wonderful figure to have around the Club.

“Along with winning trophies and producing international cricketers I want to see many of the players that are currently at Middlesex become significant figures in the club's history. No current player will ever come close to overtaking the number of wickets Fred Titmus took for the club but Tim's achievements will quite rightly be recognised. Last season Tim overtook Norman Cowans first-class wicket tally for the Club to enter the top 25. Norman, quite rightly, is a Middlesex legend and Tim, having helped the club win its first County Championship for 23 years, should now be looked on in a similar manner.”

Murtagh himself said…

“I have been extremely proud to represent Middlesex for the last decade and to have seen the side develop and grow over that period to the point where we became County Champions this season has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve achieved in my career. To have done this with teammates that I’ve played alongside for the last few years made it all the more special.

“I would like to pass on my thanks to Angus Fraser and the club’s management for giving me the opportunity to continue to represent the club for a further two years and I am very much looking forward to building on what we have achieved here and to hopefully finishing my career at Lord’s.”
