Today, in follow up the Members’ Forum and Special General Meeting the Club recently held at Lord’s, Middlesex County Cricket Club’s Board wishes to make the following short statement to all members.
We wish to clearly outline the Club’s position in relation to the current review of the Men’s domestic playing schedule from 2026 onwards, being conducted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in consultation with all Professional County Clubs.
In line with the views expressed by the Club’s members at the SGM, and other stakeholder groups who have been consulted, the view of the Club’s Board is to retain the current structure of the Rothesay County Championship and to maintain the current volume of four-day cricket played at fourteen matches, whilst recognising the need to reform the Vitality Blast to improve player welfare across the schedule.
The Club will continue to communicate with members as this process evolves and extends its thanks to all members and other stakeholders who have provided us with invaluable feedback throughout the consultation phase that we at Middlesex Cricket have been undergoing ourselves throughout this process, including the recent SGM. This has proved critical in enabling us to build a full understanding of the wider opinions of those that such a review and any subsequent change to the schedule impacts.
Today, the Club has also issued a statement publicly to outline our position on this matter.
