Ahead of the vote at the AGM to make this rule change, the Board agreed that members would be consulted before the 'Principles of Member Engagement' and the Membership Consultation Protocol were finalised.
Accordingly, views were gathered through a consultation exercise involving (a) the group of around 120 members that petitioned for the special general meeting last year; (b) the Membership Committee; (c) the Membership Communications Group; (d) Mesdames de Middlesex group and (e) the Seaxe Club. This has enabled the Board to take account of a range of members' views, and we have reflected their comments, where possible, in the final version.
