Middlesex 2s v Somerset 2s: Match Report

over 8 years ago | Uncategorised

Despite the presence of England newbie, Overton Jnr (Jamie) in their side, the visitors finished the day well beaten in both T20 games at Merchant Taylors’ School.

In the first game we were invited to bowl and restricted Somerset to 151 despite them going at 10 an over for the first half of their innings. 77 from Ryan Higgins and 52 from captain, Andrew Balbirnie meant that the win was recorded for the loss of one wicket with 3 overs to spare.

Winning the next toss we decided to have a bat and 40’s from Gubbins and Rayner meant that a challenging total of 164 was posted off our allocated overs. The Somerset reply was muted. Our bowlers were tight and disciplined, none more so than debutant Ethan Bamber – another of our Academy’s young stars. He took 2-23 including sending the afore mentioned England man Jamie O back to the hutch with a golden duck. Again with 3 overs to spare Middlesex chalked up the double.
