Middlesex win Second Eleven Championship South Group

over 8 years ago | Uncategorised

Middlesex Second Eleven have qualified for the Second Eleven Championship Final, having won the South Group, finishing ahead of London rivals Surrey, who were resoundingly beaten by Middlesex in an exciting finale to their Second Eleven Championship campaign.

At Wimbledon just last week Middlesex finished the group stage in style and put an end to Surrey’s own hopes of winning the group themselves. A devastating nine overs from Gurjit Sandhu, in which the seamer took 7 for 31, saw Surrey rolled for just 59 in their first innings, which set the scene for Middlesex to wrap up a convincing innings victory and wrap up the South group league title.

Middlesex’s route to the final saw them secure victories in six of their nine South group matches, and lose just two, to finish on top of the group with 153.5 points, 29.5 points ahead of Surrey.

The final will be a four day encounter played between 7th and 10th September, although the venue and opposition are still yet to be confirmed.

Middlesex’s opponents in the final will be the winners of the North group, although with this group yet to be resolved, Middlesex will have to wait to see whether they will face either Warwickshire, Durham, or current leaders Nottinghamshire.

Details of the final, including Middlesex’s opponents and the match venue will be released as soon as the information becomes available.

Congratulations to all of the Middlesex players who have featured in this season’s successful South group campaign.
