Toby Roland-Jones named as Middlesex CCC’s Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for June 2016

Toby Roland-Jones named as Middlesex CCC’s Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for June 2016

Middlesex County Cricket Club and their principal sponsor Brooks Macdonald have named pace bowler Toby Roland-Jones as their choice for the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for June 2016, following an outstanding month of performances for Middlesex in all forms of the game.

Roland-Jones took a total of eighteen wickets in June for Middlesex, to take his total to fifty wickets in all three forms of the game by the end of June. He is currently Middlesex’s leading wicket taker in both the NatWest T20 Blast and the Royal London One-Day Cup, and with thirty wickets already in the Specsavers County Championship is just one wicket behind Tim Murtagh who leads the way on 31.

In Middlesex’s one Specsavers County Championship clash in June, in a rain reduced affair against Lancashire, Roland Jones worked hard to take impressive first innings figures of 4 for 122 on a Lord’s pitch that offered little for the seamers and where batsmen dominated.

In a month where white ball cricket took centre stage, Roland-Jones’s efforts in Middlesex’s four Royal London One-Day Cup were consistently impressive, with him picking up three wicket hauls against both Gloucestershire and Sussex and a wicket apiece against both Hampshire and Glamorgan. His eight wickets at an average of just 18.37 were testament to the form he showed.

In the NatWest T20 Blast he was no less impressive, taking 2 for 28 against Gloucestershire and 3 for 24 against Kent, both of which contributed to important wins for his Middlesex side.

Roland-Jones’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed by the England selectors either, who announced his inclusion within the England Test squad for the opening match of the current Investec Test series against Pakistan, and he can consider himself unlucky to have missed out on final selection for the opening Test at Lord’s in favour of Nottinghamshire’s Jake Ball.

On being named as the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for June 2016, Toby Roland-Jones commented....

“I’m delighted to have been chosen to receive the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month award for June. I’ve been really enjoying my cricket this season and things have been going well. The ball’s coming out really well for me, and it’s been very satisfying to have made some important contributions towards Middlesex’s success on the field this season.”

In Toby’s absence, Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, was presented with a magnum of champagne and a cheque for £1000 by Simon Pinner, Sales Director, Funds, of Brooks Macdonald, during the interval of Middlesex’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Surrey at Lord’s tonight.
