Adam Voges ruled out of Middlesex return

Middlesex County Cricket Club regrets to announce that Adam Voges will not be returning to play for the club in 2016.

Voges was due to return to captain and play in Middlesex CCC's remaining Specsavers County Championship Division One matches, starting with the fixture against Warwickshire on 31 August, but Cricket Australia have refused him permission to do so.

Voges, who scored 388 runs at an average of 77.6 in six County Championship appearances at the start of the season, had a minor hamstring injury during Australia's recent tour of Sri Lanka. The injury did not prevent him from playing in all three Tests but Cricket Australia want him to stay in Perth, Western Australia to rest.

Commenting on Voges' absence Middlesex CCC's Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser, said…

"We are naturally disappointed that Adam cannot return. He is a fine player and a highly respected member of our squad. His presence will be missed.

“We have begun the process of seeing what other options may be available to us. As always seems the case, there is currently a lot of international cricket being or about to be played and international teams are understandably protective about their best players.

"In Adam's absence we have a fine captain in James Franklin. James has done a brilliant job for Middlesex so far this summer and he will now continue to captain the club for the remainder of the season.

“Within our squad we also have plenty of strength in depth, as we showed during the County Championship win against Durham, which was achieved without an overseas player.

“Everyone at Middlesex CCC is excited by and looking forward to what should be a thrilling last month of the season."
