JOHN SIMPSON WINS JULY BROOKS MACDONALD PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Middlesex County Cricket Club and their principal sponsor Brooks Macdonald have named wicket-keeper batsman, John Simpson, as the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for July 2016, following a terrific month in which he contributed to Middlesex’s success in all formats.

Simpson took a total of 24 catches in July for Middlesex in all three forms of the game and hit an impressive 334 runs at an average of 37.11. He played a lead role in Middlesex securing some crucial victories as the month progressed to see them move to the top of the Specsavers County Championship Division One table and qualify for the quarter finals of the NatWest T20 Blast.

Simpson’s match winning innings of 79 not out on the fourth day of Middlesex’s Championship match against Somerset in Taunton will long be remembered as one of the most destructive finishes to a first-class game in recent times, as the left hander hit four maximums and five other boundaries to take Middlesex to victory with just one ball to spare in the game. The nine catches he also took behind the stumps make it a game to remember for Simpson.

Against the same opponent, on the same ground just two days later, Simpson was at it again, smashing a match winning 23 not out to finish the game with another maximum off the final over the game to secure a vital win for Middlesex in the NatWest T20 Blast.

John Simpson was presented with a magnum of champagne and a cheque for £1000 in front of the Lord’s Pavilion by Andrew Denham-Davies of Brooks Macdonald, during the lunch interval of Middlesex’s Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey today at Lord’s.
