Middlesex won a thrilling Royal London One-Day Cup clash against Essex at Lord's to keep their hopes of a quarter final place alive. Batting first on a slow wicket, Middlesex had captain James Franklin to thank, with a fine knock of 55, for getting them to a total of 219 in their 50 overs. In reply, despite a fine start and a terrific knock of 79 from opener Nick Browne, Essex struggled more as their innings progressed as Toby Roland-Jones (4 for 40) and James Franklin (3 for 25) restricted the visitors to 215 for 9 at the close, to see Middlesex to a thrilling 4 run victory.
