NICK GUBBINS SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH MIDDLESEX

We are delighted to announce that opening batsman, Nick Gubbins, has signed a contract extension with the club that will see him remain at Lord’s until at least the end of 2019.

Gubbins, 22, hit 1,409 first-class runs this season at an average of 61.26 to finish 2016 as Middlesex’s highest run-scorer in the County Championship; an achievement that also saw him named as Middlesex’s Player of the Year.

Since making his first-class debut for Middlesex in June 2014, Gubbins has hit 2,052 runs in 28 appearances at an average of 45.60 and hit a highest individual score of 201 not out against Lancashire earlier this season in the County Championship at Lord’s.

Speaking of Gubbins’ contract extension, Angus Fraser, Middlesex’s Managing Director of Cricket, commented…

“Extending Nick’s contract is one of the easier decisions I’ve had to make. Watching him progress and perform was one of the highlights of the summer. I think he has shown everyone that he has the game and temperament to thrive at the highest level for many years to come. Nowhere was this highlighted more than in our final Championship match of the season against Yorkshire.”

Gubbins added…

“I am absolutely delighted to have signed a new deal with Middlesex CCC until 2019 and having represented the club since the age of fourteen I would like to thank those who have shown faith in me and have allowed me to fulfil my dream.

“What we achieved this year as a team has been very satisfying and although this is the culmination of a lot of a hard work, it is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long and successful period for the club, which I can’t wait to be a part of. With a great bunch of blokes this promises to be an exciting few years ahead.”
