Match action from the opening day of the day/night Specsavers County Championship clash between Essex and Middlesex at Chelmsford, where the hosts had the better of proceedings with the pink ball. Middlesex had Dawid Malan, Stephen Eskinazi and Paul Stirling to thank, each who hit half centuries, as they were bowled out for 246 at tea, before the Essex openers Cook and Browne added 106 without loss in reply, to finish day one trailing by 140 runs with all ten wickets still standing.
