MIDDLESEX YOUNGSTERS RAISING FUNDS FOR BARNET GENERAL HOSPITAL

A number of Middlesex’s young cricketers will spend the next two weeks working tirelessly to help those less fortunate in the run-up to the festive period.

Following last year’s successful visit to two children’s wards at Barnet General Hospital to give gifts to the parents and young children, the Elite Player Group will this year take the initiative one step further by raising vital funds to increase the impact that they can have on the young people and their parents.

The players have organised an overnight 12-hour “Catch-a-thon” to be held at the club’s Indoor Cricket School in Finchley, where they are being sponsored to take 7,500 catches. This money will then be collectively spent by the players on presents for the parents and children, as well as providing vital supplies to the wards in question.

“Last year’s visit was very eye-opening for us all, and this year the players have taken it upon themselves to do even more to help” said Alan Coleman, Middlesex’s Head of Youth Cricket. “Giving up a night’s sleep and spending twelve hours continually catching balls fired from the fielding machine will mean that the boys will have earned every penny they raise through sponsorship, and will really see the benefit of their hard work when they visit the hospital.”

The sponsored “Catch-a-thon” will take place overnight on Saturday 16th December, with the visit to the hospital on Wednesday 20th.

The players have set up their own fundraising page, and any support would be greatly received from the boys, and no doubt, the hospital.
