MIDDLESEX 2ND XI VS ESSEX - MATCH REPORT

Match Result - Middlesex win by 128 runs

Middlesex won their fourth consecutive Second XI Trophy match after another Robbie White century helped them on their way to beating Essex in Southend-on-Sea.

After Essex won the toss and decided to field, their decision looked to be the correct one after Snater was able to dismiss Lace and Robson in the opening 8 overs, leaving the visitors on 50-2.

However, once George Scott was joined at the crease by Robbie White, Middlesex were able to press on. George Scott managed a solid 40 before being run out in the 24th over with the score at 125-3.

Essex seemed to have their tails up at this point, and soon took the wickets of Perera and Fuller to leave Middlesex on 146-5.

Nathan Sowter then joined Robbie White, and the pair pushed Middlesex back onto the front foot, hitting another 96 between them before Sowter fell for 45 at the hands of Snater.

Robbie White continued at the crease, eventually going on to secure another brilliant century for Middlesex. It was only with 2 balls remaining that he was finally caught for 108 off the bowling of Snater, who himself dismissed Ethan Bamber with one delivery to spare to secure his five-wicket haul, with Middlesex having set Essex 295 to win.

Middlesex got off the perfect start to their defence, with James Fuller striking in the first over.

Essex were able to stabilize however, and went on to 72 before the next wicket fell in the 15th over from the bowling of Nathan Sowter.

By the end of the 20th over, Middlesex had taken another 2 wickets- with the score at 100-4, and yet another 2 in the following 3 overs to put themselves in a commanding position at the halfway mark.

Once Cross was bowled outright by George Scott with the score at 143-7, Middlesex were able to capitalise- and within 39 overs take the final 3 Essex wickets to finish off the hosts chase at 166 all out.

Nathan Sowter was the pick of the bowlers at 3-32, with Walallawita, Hollman and Fuller all taking 2 wickets a-piece.
