Martin Andersson joins Derbyshire on loan until the end of the season

Middlesex cricket can today announce that Martin Andersson will be joining Derbyshire on loan until the end of the season.

Andersson, who secured his first professional contract with Middlesex Cricket just last week, will join up with and train with his new Derbyshire teammates today, ahead of their Specsavers County Championship clash against Glamorgan at the 3aaa County Ground starting tomorrow.

Andersson, 21, follows in the footsteps fellow Middlesex youngster Tom Lace, who joined Derbyshire on loan last week and made a terrific start to his brief spell in the midlands, hitting 40 and 43 in Derbyshire’s match against Kent.

Following Sean Irvine’s retirement from cricket, Andersson will be named in Derbyshire’s squad to face Glamorgan this week, and if selected in their starting eleven, would make his County Championship debut.

Angus Fraser, Middlesex Cricket’s Managing Director of Cricket commented:

As with Tom Lace the loan opportunity for Martin Andersson with Derbyshire is a win, win situation for everybody. It was rewarding to see Tom perform well last week on his first-class debut with Derbyshire and hopefully Martin will make a similar impression if and when he gets a chance.

Martin is an exciting all-rounder and and he will only benefit from the experiences this loan move will involve.

Martin Andersson himself commented:

“I would like to thank both Middlesex and Derbyshire for giving me the fantastic opportunity of playing some first-class cricket.”
