Islington Chance to Shine Street Youth project wins National Award

The Islington Chance to Shine Street Youth project was awarded the Natwest 'No Boundaries' Award at the national Chance to Shine Awards held at Lords cricket ground recently.

The session, run in partnership between Middlesex Cricket, Islington Council and the Eritrean society of Islington, was recognised by Natwest and Chance to Shine as a session that uses the power of cricket to introduce the game to a group who traditionally have never engaged in cricket before.

Through weekly sessions, held outdoors, all year round on a football pitch at a sports centre in Islington, the young people turn up every week to learn skills and play matches. The group love their cricket so much that even when it snowed in January they all wore their coats, gloves and scarves and carried on playing cricket - but only after they had cleared the snow from the pitch beforehand!

The video above was shown at the awards evening prior to the award being presented to the young people from the session.

Congratulations to everyone involved in winning this national award and for all the hard work in delivering this outstanding Chance to Shine project.

Shown below are press article in local newspapers the Islington Gazette and Islington Tribune, who featured the project after it was named as the national award winner.
