ROBBIE WHITE TO JOIN ESSEX ON LOAN IMMEDIATELY

Middlesex Cricket can today announce that Robbie White is set to join Essex on loan for the next two months to provide cover for the injured Essex pairing of Adam Wheater and Michael Pepper.

Wheater, Essex’s first-choice wicket-keeper, will face a lengthy spell on the side-lines after badly injuring his thumb on the opening day of the season against Hampshire, whilst his deputy Michael Pepper is also side-lined, following an operation to remove his appendix.

White will begin training with the Essex squad tomorrow morning at the Kia Oval, ahead of their County Championship clash against reigning champions Surrey on Thursday.

Middlesex’s 23-year-old wicket-keeper batsman made his County Championship debut for Middlesex last summer against Northamptonshire at Lord’s and played a total of six first-class matches in 2018.

Angus Fraser, Middlesex Cricket’s Managing Director of Cricket, commented:

“My sympathies go to both of Essex’s injured players - but their misfortune has created a great opportunity for Robbie to gain further first team experience.

“Robbie can only benefit from playing during this period and it would be foolish to turn this win, win situation down.

“Stuart Law is happy for Robbie to play against Middlesex on 19 April, so we look forward to seeing him at Chelmsford in just over a weeks’ time.”

White himself commented:

I’m really excited about joining up with Essex over the coming weeks and can hopefully contribute to some success on the field.

“I’m really grateful to Essex for the opportunity and to Middlesex for facilitating the loan.”
