SQUAD OF FOURTEEN NAMED FOR TRIP TO OLD TRAFFORD

over 4 years ago | Squads

After the disappointment of a 44 run loss to Durham at Lord’s this week Middlesex head to Old Trafford tomorrow to take on Champions elect Lancashire in the penultimate Specsavers County Championship encounter of the 2019 season, with Head Coach Stuart Law freshening up the squad with the introduction of some new faces.

The loss to Durham this week put an end to the club’s hopes of securing promotion to the top-flight this season and they’ll now travel to Old Trafford playing for pride. With a top three finish beyond Middlesex now Law makes good use of the opportunity to bring some new players into the squad.

After several successful outings in the club’s second eleven, as part of his rehabilitation from back surgery earlier this year, Martin Andersson is named in the first eleven squad for the first time this term, having hit an impressive 174 against Essex Seconds this week in his latest outing.

Ethan Bamber is recalled to the squad having also performed well in recent second eleven matches, including a five wicket haul for the young seamer this week - also against Essex at Radlett.

Leg-spinner Luke Hollman is named in a first eleven squad for the very first time and would make his first-class debut if selected. The impressive eighteen-year-old North Middlesex turner and hard-hitting batsman has previously represented England Under 19’s in all three international formats and makes the step up from the twos to Middlesex’s first eleven after impressing throughout the season in the seconds.

Making way this week are the seam trio of Tom Helm, Tim Murtagh and Steven Finn. The former rested to recover from a hamstring niggle, the latter pair rested for the trip up north - opening the door for others in the squad to impress and stake their claims for a starting place at Lord’s next week in the final game of the season against Derbyshire.

Middlesex name the following fourteen-man squad for the clash with Lancashire, with the hosts looking to secure the five points that would see them crowned Division Two champions...
