COVID-19 UPDATE - CLUB STATEMENT ON FURTHER DELAYS TO START OF CRICKET SEASON

COVID 19 UPDATE - MIDDLESEX CRICKET COMMENTS ON ANNOUNCEMENT OF FURTHER DELAYS TO THE PROFESSIONAL CRICKET SEASON

Middlesex Cricket’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Goatley, has expressed “disappointment but understanding”, in response to the earlier announcement by the England and Wales Cricket Board that the start of the professional cricket season will be delayed further until at least ‪the 1st July 2020.

Speaking ‪on Friday afternoon, Goatley commented: “This morning’s announcement by the ECB is extremely disappointing but completely understandable, given the current measures in place across the country. With the health and safety of our players, staff and members remaining our primary concern, a further delay was inevitable and the correct decision made.

“At Middlesex we share the immense frustration that our members will also be feeling with this news and I would like to pass on our thanks to all of them for their understanding of the unprecedented and extremely challenging times in which we are operating.

“Exactly how much cricket will be played this summer still remains unknown, and we are continuing to work closely with the ECB and all other First-Class counties to monitor the situation, with every intention of ensuring our members get to enjoy as much cricket as possible this year.

“Whilst we wait for complete clarity on what the revised playing schedule looks like this summer the club will continue to assess the situation, and when the cricketing landscape becomes known, we will be in a much better position to make informed decisions that affect the club’s future and that of our members.

“Until that time, we thank our members again for their continued support of the Club and look forward to both the time that we can inform them of an approved revised playing schedule and to the day that we can welcome them back to Lord’s.”
