A FOCUS ON - ICKENHAM CC

A Focus On… Ickenham Cricket Club

This week we spoke to Ickenham CC, a club who have run several successful Soft Ball festivals in the past, with more exciting evenings continuing throughout the summer.

Soft Ball Cricket is all about getting out and playing the game, with no pads, no hard ball, and a very simple set of rules. It is a game for all women, no matter the skill level, fitness, or age.

How has the Softball programme benefited Ickenham?

The softball events put on in recent years has brought new members to the club and given local women a taste of what it is like to be involved at Ickenham CC. This has also given the current players a chance to coach new players whilst upskilling their cricketing abilities. Because of these events, awareness of the club has also increased in the local community.

The sessions themselves have been a fun introduction to cricket. Many of the participants had never played before, so instead of launching them straight into games the club have run a couple of sessions that focus on the key cricket skills. The ladies and girls attending have really enjoyed themselves and have found it a great introduction to the sport.

What else happens at Ickenham?

Ickenham is a friendly, sociable club which caters for all abilities, from beginners through to county and regional players. There are two women’s teams, the First XI play in the Women’s Cricket Southern League (across multiple counties) and the Second XI in the Middlesex Derick Morgan League; playing alongside five Saturday Senior men’s teams and a strong junior section. There are games being played at the club’s Oak Avenue home ground almost every evening throughout the season.

What next?

Ickenham are a delightful group of women who love playing cricket together. Everyone is welcome, especially if you like laughing! Their next Soft Ball Festival is on August 4, so contact the club for more information.

We would like to thank the team at Ickenham for their contribution and wish them good luck for the rest of the season. You can find more information about the club on their website.
