A FOCUS ON - ACTON CC

over 2 years ago | Community

With the Middlesex Cup final being played tomorrow (Saturday 11 September), we spoke to finalists Acton CC – a fast-growing and ambitious community club with a thriving social scene and diverse membership.

How has the Middlesex Cup benefited Acton CC?

Getting to the Middlesex Cup final is a real highlight for the club, showing the growth and progression that has happened at Acton over the last fifteen years. Acton have had some exciting cup runs in other competitions over recent years, but to reach the final and play against a club with Richmond’s history is a testament to how the club has been run. The Cup has provided opportunities for Acton to push themselves against Premier League opposition, whilst also introducing a number of youngsters to competitive Senior cricket. Most significantly, the Cup run this season has given members a lot of cheer during a difficult time, with a big support crew in attendance at every game in the competition so far. The Acton faithful are looking forward to one more day out at Ealing on Saturday!

What else happens at Acton CC?

The club has always been a community club that has opened its gates to everyone. A one-club culture and a unique spirit have been at the centre of the club’s success over the last few years. Acton are now firmly established in the Middlesex County Cricket League having only been promoted in the mid-2000s and are building towards becoming a Premier League club. Alongside the top-quality cricket on offer, there are less pressured playing alternatives in the Saturday 3s and 4s, Sunday teams and midweek teams. The facilities have been upgraded recently with the addition of six artificial nets and a playing square that is consistently rated as among the best in the League, with a new clubhouse also in the pipeline. The junior section is successful and has seen many graduates into the Acton First Team. The club have organised a Brighton tour for almost fifty years, which is one of the many social events that new members have no trouble settling in.
