MIDDLESEX CRICKETERS AND STAFF VISIT LONDON CENTRAL MOSQUE

Yesterday afternoon, the Middlesex professional playing squad took a break from pre-season training to join fellow Club staff on a visit to the London Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre in Regents Park.

Over 40 representatives from the Club were invited on a tour of the landmark facility, which included a welcome and introduction from Director General, Dr Ahmad Al Dubayan, a talk and Q&A session on the principles of Islam by ICC’s Tours and Interfaith Coordinator, Peter Bennetts, before the group got to witness afternoon prayers in the great hall and took in some history of the Quran and the Islamic faith in the facilities’ excellent Islam exhibition.

Joining the Club on the day were senior representatives from Nujum Sports, who presented Middlesex Chief Executive Officer Andrew Cornish with a Certificate of Commitment, following the Club’s signing of the Muslim Athletes Charter last month.

Tim Murtagh, in return, presented Nujum Sports with a playing shirt signed by the Middlesex professional squad.

After a thoroughly enjoyable tour of the mosque, Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Cornish, said:

“On behalf of all of us at Middlesex Cricket, I would like to thank the Director General and Peter for their warm hospitality in welcoming Middlesex Cricket to tour their incredible facility.

“All of us on the tour found the visit incredibly enjoyable; the visit forms part of our broader educational element within our EDI plan as we continue to educate ourselves and learn what is important to the many faith groups that our county comprises.

“Our thanks also go to our friends at Nujum Sports, who we have signed the Muslim Athletes Charter with, and we look forward to working closely with them as an organisation. Their guidance and knowledge will prove invaluable to us as we engage our communities and deliver on our commitment to making Middlesex Cricket a wholly inclusive Club for all.”
