MIDDLESEX CRICKET SUPPORTS LGBTQ+ INCLUSION IN CRICKET CONFERENCE

MIDDLESEX CRICKET SUPPORTING LGBTQ+ INCLUSION IN CRICKET CONFERENCE

Middlesex Cricket is extremely proud to be joining forces with Warwickshire County Cricket Club in supporting a unique and special conference, being organised, and hosted by Birmingham Unicorns Cricket Club and Graces Cricket Club.

The LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Cricket Conference, being held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground on September 1st between 10am and 4.30pm, is the first of its kind to be held within the game.

This game-wide event is aimed at staff & volunteers working in cricket with a responsibility for EDI, participation, engaging diverse communities, or for those who have an interest in creating a more inclusive game for the LGBTQ+ community.

Representatives of both Graces and Birmingham Unicorns, two of the country’s best known LGBQT+ cricket clubs, will share stories, discuss what progress has been made over the last two years, and explain how county and club representatives can get involved and put their organisations at the forefront of LGBTQ+ inclusion within cricket.

There will also be opportunities for delegates to input into the development of new resources to help cricket become more inclusive, as well as planning for next steps, and take part in discussion on how the game can work together to grow the sport.

The inaugural LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Cricket Conference is just one of many steps the game is taking to open the sport up to everyone and showcase what a difference it can make in changing people’s lives.

On supporting the inaugural Conference, Co-Chair of Middlesex’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Ankit Shah, commented:

“Educating and learning is absolutely vital if the game is to achieve its aims of being open and welcoming to all, and those at Graces and Birmingham Unicorns are no better placed to share their first-hand experiences from within the game to assist with that process.

“At Middlesex we have been fortunate enough to experience some of the work that Graces Cricket Club do already, and are really looking forward to working with them and our colleagues from across the wider game to improve LGBTQ+ inclusivity within cricket.

“We are hugely proud to be supporting the inaugural LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Cricket Conference and can’t wait for the event to come around. We look forward to seeing you there.”
