TOBY GREATWOOD SIGNS EXTENSION TO CONTRACT WITH MIDDLESEX

YOUNG SEAMER TOBY GREATWOOD SIGNS EXTENSION TO CONTRACT WITH MIDDLESEX CRICKET

Middlesex Cricket is delighted to announce that young right-arm seamer, Toby Greatwood, has signed an extension to his rookie contract with the Club, which will see him remain a Middlesex player until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Greatwood, 20, is a product of the Middlesex Academy, and was first offered professional terms last summer, signing a short-term contract until the end of the 2021 season. In November last year he extended that contract by a further year, until the end of the current season.

Greatwood made his first eleven debut in the Royal London Cup last August, when he picked up two wickets in his maiden appearance against Kent, claiming his first professional wicket with just his ninth delivery.

That was to be Greatwood’s only appearance last summer, however this year he has featured more regularly for the Club and has made in impression in both white-ball competitions.

He made his Vitality Blast debut against Kent in Canterbury this June, the first of two appearances made this summer in the T20 format, and he has featured in six of Middlesex’s Royal London Cup group matches, only missing out on a seventh due to an injury ahead of the Club’s final Group match of the campaign.

Speaking of Greatwood being rewarded with a contract extension for a further year, Middlesex’s Head of Men’s Performance Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:

“It is always good to see products of our Academy realise their potential and graduate into the professional ranks. It is how the system should work and nothing gives us greater pleasure than to see one of our own developing their game and achieving their goals. Toby initially came to our Academy through our partnership with Berkshire Cricket, where Toby played much of his Youth cricket, so a huge amount of praise and thanks must go to them.

“Since first earning a professional contract last summer, Toby’s commitment and focus as a professional has been hugely impressive, it’s what he has always wanted, which is showing in the way he goes about his business, day in, day out.

“His performances this year have been impressive, especially in the Royal London Cup, and he is more the deserving of this contract extension.

“We all look forward to working with Toby and to seeing how his game further develops over the coming year.”

Speaking of the contract extension himself Toby Greatwood commented:

“I’m really excited to have signed a new contract with Middlesex, I’ve really enjoyed my first full season in and around the first team squad.

“We’ve got a fantastic group in the dressing room, who I’m really enjoying playing with. It’s great for us all to be in an environment we can thrive in.

“The support all the coaches give us as players is incredible. They have really helped me improve and I’m looking forward to working with them over the coming year to develop all aspects of my game.

“I’m really grateful for the faith shown in me by the club and am looking forward to repaying them.”
