SQUAD & PREVIEW | MIDDLESEX V SURREY | VITALITY BLAST

SQUAD & PREVIEW | MIDDLESEX V SURREY | VITALITY BLAST

Middlesex will be hoping for a winning start to their Vitality Blast action tomorrow night when Surrey visit Lord’s.

The match forms part of a double-header, with Sunrisers playing host to South East Stars – which starts at 2.15pm.

Middlesex will have Pieter Malan available for the clash as well and a full complement of seamers, which include Martin Andersson, Blake Cullen, Tom Helm, Ryan Higgins and Toby Roland-Jones.

Nathan Fernandes has been named in a Middlesex squad for the first time. The explosive left-handed batter and left-arm spinner is one to keep an eye on for sure.

Surrey reached the quarter-finals of the competition last summer, where they narrowly lost to Yorkshire Vikings in a final-over thriller at the Kia Oval. With their star-studded line-up, they will be looking to go one step further and reach Finals Day, which will be held at Edgbaston on Saturday 15th July.

Middlesex will be producing an Enhanced Live Stream for the Sunrisers v South East Stars clash. There will be no live stream for Middlesex v Surrey as the match is being broadcast live on Sky Sports Cricket from 6pm.

Sunrisers Head Coach, Andy Tennant, has named an unchanged squad of 13 for the Charlotte Edwards Cup game against South East Stars. All-rounder Dané van Niekerk will be looking to make her debut at the Home of Cricket after training with her new teammates for the first time earlier this week.

Cordelia Griffith was the standout performer last Thursday, when she hit 53 from 46 balls and she will be looking to continue that fine form this week.

Mady Villiers and Kelly Castle both took three wickets each in a strong bowling performance, which saw Sunrisers bowl Sparks out for 137 inside the final over. Kate Coppack, Abtaha Maqsood, and Grace Scrivens all chipped in with a wicket before the innings ended with a run out by Flo Miller.

The batting is where Sunrisers will be looking to improve, and once that clicks the side will be a challenge for any side – as they showed on the opening day of the season against Southern Vipers in April. The addition of van Niekerk will only strengthen the power of the top order, and we are excited to watch her play in a Sunrisers shirt.

South East Stars come into the game off the back of two defeats in the competition - losing at home to the Blaze last Saturday, before a defeat at the hands of Southern Vipers on Tuesday. Bryony Smith, Sophia Dunkley and Paige Franklin have all scored half-centuries, and will be looking to make the most of the Lord’s batting surface.
