ANN SAVOURY WELCOMED TO LORD'S, AS WE CELEBRATED THE CAREER OF ENGLAND'S OLDEST WOMEN'S CRICKETER

During our recent County Championship clash against Surrey, Middlesex Cricket welcomed Ann Savoury (nee Sanders) to Lord's for the day, to celebrate the career of England's oldest surviving Women's cricketer.

Ann made her debut for Middlesex in the 1949 season, playing for the Club for the next two and a half decades, until 1974. She also had an England career that spanned a decade and a half, making her international debut in 1954 and playing until 1969.

She played 11 Test matches for England including tours to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies, taking 32 wickets in her England Test career.

When her playing career drew to a close, Ann became a junior England selector, became a Middlesex selector, and was a terrific administrator of the Women's game, both nationally with England and at county level for Middlesex.

To celebrate her 92nd birthday, Middlesex and MCC invited Ann to spend the day at Lord's to enjoy a day of County Championship action, where former England and Middlesex legend Mike Gatting presented her with a ceremonial Middlesex cap in the Committee Room at tea.

Ann Savoury - truly a legend of the Women's game!
