MIDDLESEX YOUNGSTER RHYS LEWIS CALLED UP TO ENGLAND YOUNG LIONS INVITATIONAL SQUAD

MIDDLESEX'S RHYS LEWIS NAMED IN ENGLAND YOUNG LIONS INVITATIONAL SQUAD TO FACE AUSTRALIA & IRELAND

The England and Wales Cricket Board today named Middlesex EPG player Rhys Lewis in an 18-player Young Lions Invitational squad to face Australia and Ireland later this month.

Lewis, 18, is a product of the Berkshire Cricket youth programme, coming from Wargrave Cricket Club through the Berkshire age groups and into the Middlesex Elite Player Group, and is one of a number of young players to benefit from the ongoing strategic partnership in place between Berkshire and Middlesex. The right handed batter, who also bowls useful off-spin, who is now in his third year in the Middlesex EPG squad and also Captains the Club's Under 18 red-ball side, has made a handful of Second Eleven appearances for the Club, in both the County Championship and in the T20 format, most notably his last four-day appearance for the Seconds against Essex Twos in June this year at Billericay Cricket Club, when he hit 111 off 115 deliveries against a strong Essex attack.

The England Invitational squad will play a two-day clash against the Australians, before taking on Ireland in a fifty-over encounter, with both games being played at Loughborough.

Young Lions Invitational XI as follows:

Charlie Allison (Essex), Yousaf Bin Naeem (Derbyshire), Tommy Boorman (Gloucestershire), Alex French (Surrey), Tom Giles (Nottinghamshire), Daniel Hogg (Durham), Travis Holland (Nottinghamshire), Haider Hussain (Lancashire), Noah Kelly (Yorkshire), Rhys Lewis (Middlesex), Freddie McCann (Nottinghamshire), Haydon Mustard (Durham), Louie Owens (Yorkshire), Jake Tarling (Leicestershire), Stuart Van Der Merwe (Surrey), Josh Thomas (Somerset), Raphael Weatherall (Northamptonshire), Theo Wylie (Warwickshire).
