MARTIN CARR COMPLETES SPONSORED WALK AT LORD'S

MARTIN CARR COMPLETES SPONSORED WALK AROUND LORD’S

Yesterday, Middlesex member, Martin Carr, successfully completed a sponsored walk around Lord’s Cricket Ground, on day two of Middlesex’s LV= County Championship clash with Warwickshire. His efforts were to raise funds for ‘Middlesex In The Community’, a new charity being established by the Club to help develop cricket in the county for years to come.

Martin, who has been a passionate Middlesex member for a decade and a half, suffers from Asperger's syndrome, yet he doesn’t let this stop him enjoying his support of Middlesex Cricket, and he is often seen cheering on the team at Lord’s and our out-ground venues. He is a hugely popular face within the Middlesex Cricket family and loved by all.

Pre-Covid, in 2019 Martin approached the Club and asked whether we would help him raise funds for the Ruth Strauss Foundation, which was at that time the Club’s nominated charity partner. He duly completed a sponsored walk and with the generous support of the Middlesex family, he successfully raised over £600 for the charity.

Keen to repeat the effort, Martin again approached the Club earlier this year to suggest that he could fund raise again, and we agreed upon a repeat of his 2019 efforts, which resulted in him successfully completing his sponsored walk around Lord’s yesterday.

Martin was joined by the Middlesex office staff at Lord’s for his walk around, who kept him company and spurred him on through his challenge. He finished his walk off out on the hallowed Lord’s turf, where he had his picture taken with the Middlesex playing squad.

To date this year Martin has raised £495 through online donations, and £102 in cash donations, so is a little short of his fundraising efforts of 2019, and someway short of his £1,000 target for this year’s challenge.

His fundraising page will remain open for another two weeks, so there’s still time to make a donation to Martin’s worthy cause, and help to raise funds for the development of cricket in Middlesex for generations to come.
