YOUNG CRICKET OFFICIALS TAKE CHARGE OF LONDON YOUTH GAMES

Congratulations to eleven young people who officiated in the London Youth Games over the weekend, having gained their Young Cricket Officials qualification last year.

Arav, Atharv, Ben, Constantine, Dylan, Idrees, Mark, Mourya, Rishane, Siya, and Varsan, all produced an assured performance whilst standing in the Boys U13 Qualifiers at the Harrow Leisure Centre.

In 2023, Middlesex Cricket trained 95 young people aged between 13-18 on the Young Cricket Officials course, where they studied how to umpire and how to score a cricket game.

Through our partnership with London Youth Games, who host cricket competitions across the 32 Boroughs of London throughout the year, we invited these young people to come and put their training into use over the two days.

Middlesex Participation Manager, Sharon Eyers, said: “It was incredible to see these young people getting the chance to umpire in competitive matches alongside experienced ACO umpires.

Whilst they were changing between square leg and the bowler’s end, their confidence grew throughout the day and all the Borough managers were impressed with their professionalism.”

If you are between 13 and 18 years old, and interested in taking our Young Cricket Officials course, please contact Sharon Eyers. The programme is completely free, and involves face to face training where you learn the key skills of how to umpire and score a cricket game.

It’s perfect for any young person who wants to learn more about cricket, help out at their local club/school, or learn some valuable skills to use towards a volunteering scheme (such as Duke of Edinburgh).
