MIDDLESEX V GLAMORGAN | SQUAD AND PREVIEW

MIDDLESEX NAME SQUAD OF THIRTEEN FOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER AGAINST GLAMORGAN AT LORD’S

Middlesex’s 2024 season gets underway tomorrow at Lord’s, as Glamorgan travel up the M4 for the opening Vitality County Championship clash of the year.

First-Team Coach Richard Johnson has named a squad of thirteen to take on the Welshmen, with Captain Toby Roland-Jones leading out the Seaxes at the Home of Cricket.

Middlesex’s two new signings for 2024, Henry Brookes and Leus du Plooy are named in the squad, having both featured in Middlesex’s pre-season build-up.

Middlesex name Brookes in a six strong seam attack, alongside Roland-Jones, Ethan Bamber, Blake Cullen, Tom Helm and Ryan Higgins, with Nathan Fernandes and Josh De Caires providing the spin attack.

The batting line-up is bolstered by du Plooy’s addition, with him named alongside Sam Robson, Mark Stoneman, Max Holden, Fernandes and Higgins, with Jack Davies taking the wicket-keeping gloves.

Having played no part in the pre-season warm-up matches whilst recovering from a finger injury sustained over the winter, Stephen Eskinazi misses out on selection in the opener, despite now having fully recovered from the injury.

With Glamorgan’s frontline seamer Timm van der Gugten injured and on the sidelines, a late loan addition to the squad sees Craig Miles added to the visitor’s ranks, and likely to feature over the next four days, joining Pakistani international Mir Hamza in the attack.

Glamorgan proved hard to beat in 2023, suffering only one loss over the season in the red-ball format, however twelve draws and only one victory saw them finish the season in fifth place.

Middlesex’s thirteen-man squad is as follows:

Ethan Bamber

Jack Davies (wk)
