Middlesex Cricket is delighted to announce that Ian Salisbury has been appointed as a full-time coach at the Club.
Salisbury began working with Middlesex in 2023, appointed in the role of consultant spin-bowling Coach, having previously held domestic coaching roles at both Surrey and Sussex, having coached internationally with England’s Physical Disability squad, and within England’s Development Programme, where he worked with the Club’s First Team Coach, Richard Johnson.
Salisbury will join the Club’s coaching team and work alongside Johnson, Club Coach, Rory Coutts, Bowling Coach, Tim Murtagh, and Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman.
As a former Test spinner with England who made over 500 appearances in county cricket across both red and white-ball formats, with his leg-spin yielding him over 1,000 wickets, he brings both experience and expertise to the role and will work closely with the spinners within Middlesex's playing group.
On Salisbury’s appointment, Alan Coleman, the Club’s Director of Cricket commented:
“Having worked with 'Sals' over the last two years, I have been hugely impressed with both his specialist expertise in the art of spin bowling, but also his wider knowledge of the game – which come from the long and successful playing career he enjoyed and from the various coaching roles he’s held.
“The players love working with him, he brings a huge amount of experience to the role, not only as a player, but more importantly as a coach, and I have already seen how much the players will benefit from working with him.
“We are thrilled to have him on board in a full-time capacity and I look forward to seeing him work closely with the players moving forwards and to him being an important part of our coaching group.”
Ian Salisbury himself commented:
“I have had an unbelievable couple of years so far and I’m excited to be on board full-time.
“It’ll be a challenge, but I feel there is a high ceiling for this club.”
