SQUAD & PREVIEW | MIDDLESEX WOMEN V GLAMORGAN WOMEN | VITALITY BLAST

MIDDLESEX WOMEN NAME SQUAD OF 13 FOR VITALITY BLAST CLASH WITH GLAMORGAN AT MERCHANT TAYLORS’

Fresh from their opening win, Middlesex Women are back in Vitality Blast action tomorrow, facing Glamorgan at Merchant Taylors’ School in another double-header.

Head Coach, Marc Broom, has named a squad of 13 for the contest, with three changes from the side that secured a dominant win over Sussex Sharks at Lord’s on Thursday. Sonali Patel comes into the group, alongside Olivia Kibler and Lucy Porter, as Middlesex aim to make it two wins from two in the competition.

That opening match at the Home of Cricket marked a special milestone – Middlesex Women’s first-ever competitive fixture at Lord’s – and they rose to the occasion with a commanding eight-wicket victory to pick up the maximum five points.

The win was built on a sensational bowling performance, led by 14-year-old Anaya Patel, who claimed remarkable figures of 4/18 from her four overs. Katie Wolfe, Sarah Pearson, and skipper, Saskia Horley, each added a wicket, as Sussex were held to 102/7 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Middlesex chased down the target inside 16 overs, with opener, Riva Pindoria, starring at the top of the order. She brought up her first half-century of the season with the winning boundary, and was ably supported by Horley, who finished unbeaten on 24.

While Glamorgan will be playing their first Vitality Blast fixture of the summer, they arrive with a strong recent T20 record. In the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup, they progressed to the third round with convincing wins over Gloucestershire and Sussex, before falling to eventual champions, Lancashire Thunder.

In the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, they currently sit third in the standings, with just one loss – to Middlesex. That match was Middlesex’s closest 50-over contest thus far, ending in a narrow 11-run win in a thrilling conclusion.

Middlesex will be aiming to build on the momentum from Thursday’s performance and continue their strong start in the competition.
